president obama is hosting a youth summit this afternoon. the administration says healthcare.gov is vastly improved, now working more than 90% of the time and able to support at least 800,000 users per day. on monday, as we've been reporting, the site had a million visitors. but even with these improvements, what are the chances the administration reaches its goal of seven million americans enrolled by the end of march? take a look at the math. in october, 27,000 americans signed up on the federal exchange. in the month of november, 100,000 people. even if, let's say, they quadruple november's numbers in december, that's another 400,000 enrollments. so under that scenario, less than a million people will have enrolled in the first three months, leaving only three months left to get to the goal of seven million. i want to bring in "washington post" columnist and msnbc policy annual list ezra klein from whom we steal these kinds of numbers. ezra, good morning. >> good morning. >> what are the chances realistically healthcare.gov hits the seven million enrollment goal? >> seven million

conservatives had is the obama administration has used its executive authority to tinker with the law in where they think congress should have a say. some of this criticism reaches well beyond logic. let's go back to sarah palin. the notion death panels are in there. the first she referred to was end of life consultations. that was stripped from the legislation because of the uproar she caused. it's not in there now. but years later she's acting as if it is. so there's a bit of lunacy to these criticisms. it's not based in fact at all. that's what clouds this debate. you don't know what are pure fabrications or gripes. >> don't you think party appeal, sam, of sarah palin is she doesn't give a rat's butt what the facts are. and i think that is her wild attraction. she's almost squirrely in that way that she wants to say wild things. we'll say that's not true. she'll just come back and say that's being technical or you're dealing with facts there. >> or she'll find some other provision to claim it's a death panel. for example the independent payment advisory board. i agree with you.

weeks on the federal healthcare.gov website, the obama administration now says the site is working for most people most of the time, which is what they were hoping for by december 1. if the health care website is, in fact, working that much more smoothly, that should musmooth e way for more people to get enrolled across the country. in the first nine weeks, in general, states running their own exchanges, kentucky included, they have done better than states that are not running their own exchanges and letting the federal government do it. but as the federal system works these kinks out, the numbers are going to keep going up. they're going to keep going up and up, even in places like mississippi, even in places like mississippi, which has done everything it can to ruin its own citizens' chances of getting health insurance, even to the point of unplugging what they had, which was working, which they designed for themselves. even in a state like mississippi, where the governor has been doing everything he can in his power to keep mississippi uninsured, even in mississippi, the numbers wil

? >> look, i think any kind of -- any time you're criticizing the obama administration on their economic record, you've really got to take into account not just what they've done, but what they've tried to do. have they done enough to lower the unemployment rate to offset inequality? i don't think so. but have they tried to do the kinds of policies that would move in that direction? very much so. i'm thinking of the american jobs act. the minimum wage increase the president proposed back in the last state of the union. the fact they've been blocked along the way so many times by congress is really important if you're doing that kind of evaluation. >> and you have to make that point to so many other different topics. that's out there. look, we can't talk about all this without mentioning friday's jobs report. we saw unemployment fall to 7.0% for the first time since '08. best numbers in five years. what's your analysis of the report? >> well, it was a good report. sometimes we've talked about these declines in unemployment as being due to the fact that people left the labor market and gav
